Lord of War (2006) MA15+

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Ethan Hawke and Jared Leto

Lord of War is a story about a nobody turning into a somebody by doing something that is perhaps Legal but maybe morally wrong. The film centres around Yuri Orlov an American of Ukranian origin and his battle of being a somebody, he doesn't care how he gets there but he knows where he wants to be and his choice of weapon to get from point A to B is literally a weapon, he becomes a Gunrunner. The film explores the trials and tribulations of a Gunrunner and the effects his occupation has on his personal life, his family and his friends. The film exploits the technicalities and interesting facts of being a gunrunner, however overall it is a facinating tale of a man who has chosen such a path.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film and was always gripped into the story of Yuri Orlov and also the Cat and Mouse battle between Yuri and Interpol Agent Jack (Ethan Hawke). A true adventure. A film that will go down well with a couple of frothies on a Saturday night and get those thoughts provoked!. I highly recommend it.

The Dark Knight (2008) M

Starring: Christian Fail, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine and that girl who replaced Katie Holmes.

This film is the Godfather Part II of Superhero films.

Before I go any further, YES I am a huge fan of Batman, he has been my favourite superhero since age 6, but that does not mean that I have rated this movie highly because I am biased, I am actually a fan who has extremely high expectations, and the Dark Knight simply does not disappoint.

This film has it all, it is a dark, action packed film, with a hint of romance and comedy. And when I say dark, I mean it. There were a few scenes where I had my hand over my mouth, with my eyes half shut in tension. As for Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker, it was “explosive”. In my view his performance was better and scarier than of Sir Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector in The Silence of the Lambs. This film is a true crime epic and so far the dark Knight is a must see film.
